What Is Life Coaching?
At Gnosis Wellness Collective in Charleston, SC, our trauma-informed coaching services are non-clinical and designed for individuals, leaders, and teams who are navigating loss, transition, burnout, or a sense of misalignment, and who want structured support that builds emotional resilience and goes deeper than generic mindset work. Coaching is best suited for people who are generally stable but feeling stuck, burnt out, or ready to move through a transition with more intention and support.
Our coaches use the ADAPT™ Framework alongside:
-
Somatic and body-based practices
-
The neurobiology of stress, emotion, and behavior
-
Evolutionary, resilience, and positive psychology
Because coaching is non-clinical, it involves no diagnosis and creates no clinical record. For people holding security clearances, facing fitness-for-duty review, or licensed by boards that ask about mental health treatment, that distinction matters.
What Is the ADAPT™ Framework?
ADAPT is a five-stage framework for creating change, developed by Dr. Maia Gill and refined since 2009. It came out of work with veterans and their families, and it's the structure underneath coaching here.
ALIGN
The opening question is a simple one: what areas of your life are most important to you in this very moment? We identify the areas tied to your well-being and purpose and get clear on which ones actually matter right now, using the Aligning Purpose Scale and the Pathway to Purpose cards
DIRECTION
Out of those areas, pick the one you want to engage with currently. This is the prioritization step, and it's usually where motivation comes from, because you're working on something you chose.
APPROACH
Start engaging in that area. We build a Stepping-Stones Map of the micro-actions that would increase or decrease your engagement, and use IMOK, a weekly tracking system, to work through obstacles as they come up.
PURPOSE
Sustained engagement in the areas that matter is what puts you on the pathway. The tools work together here rather than separately, the scale, the cards, the map, and the weekly tracking all feed the same thing.
THERAPY
In ADAPT, therapy means whatever is genuinely healing for you: time in nature, relationships, meaningful acts, caring for your body. It's about connection between self, others, and environment. This stage is about what's therapeutic in the broad sense. It is not psychotherapy, and coaching here remains non-clinical.
Can Yoga Be Part of Coaching?
Yes. Yoga, breathwork, and somatic movement can be built into your coaching rather than booked separately. Depending on what you're working on, that might mean practices between sessions, movement inside a session, or classes as part of your plan.
The reason is practical. ADAPT works through considering the whole person from a cultural wellbeing model of wellbeing, including curiosity seeking behaviors, play, physical wellbeing, socialization, culture, and more.

Coaching
vs Therapy
Coaching at Gnosis Wellness Collective is separate from psychotherapy. It is not a diagnosis, mental health treatment, or counseling. Instead, coaching is a collaborative, future-oriented process that helps you clarify what matters most, honor your nervous system, and take grounded, values-aligned steps in your life, work, and relationships.
Coaching is not appropriate for a crisis, or when a diagnosable mental health condition is the primary concern. In those cases, we recommend working with a licensed mental health professional in your state.
Gnosis Wellness Collective offers both. Counseling is provided by licensed clinicians for mental health treatment, and coaching is a separate, non-clinical service.
Some people start with one and move to the other, and we'll help you work out which fits where you are. Read more about our counseling services in Charleston, or our yoga and breathwork classes.

Bill Jarboe
ISA LVL 3, Surf Therapy Certified, Coach
Bill is a combat veteran, husband, father, and the kind of person who found healing in the ocean before he even knew he was looking for it. After years of navigating PTSD, addiction, and the disorienting quiet that follows military service, Bill discovered that the water could reach places nothing else could. What started as a birthday surf lesson became a calling - and eventually a life's work. Bill is a Groundswell-trained surf therapy facilitator who believes healing isn't about fixing what's broken. It's about reconnecting to what was always there. He brings lived experience, radical honesty, and a deep understanding of what it means to carry invisible wounds while still showing up every day.

Rooted in both yogic philosophy and an understanding of the mind-body connection, her classes weave together mindful movement, breathwork, meditation, visualization, and embodied awareness to support healing while encouraging students to integrate the principles of yoga into everyday life. With a gentle and compassionate approach, Amanda creates a nurturing, welcoming space where students can release chronic tension, reduce stress, quiet the mind, and reconnect with themselves.
